KRAKOW TOWNSHIP - Presque Isle County Sheriff's deputies searched for, but did not find, a 17-year-old male from Macomb County believed to be headed to Thompson's Harbor State Park.

The department received the tip from the Macomb County Sheriff Department at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. John Kasuba said. Deputies learned the suspect, a self-proclaimed survivalist, had stolen his parents' white Cadillac Escalade and was believed to be headed for the state park with some stolen guns. When they arrived at the park, they found a group of students from Rogers City was there on a field trip. Deputies escorted them out.

"The kids were not in danger, we just escorted them out as a safety precaution," he said.

Deputies searched the area until 9 p.m. and returned Wednesday morning, but found no evidence of the suspect or that he had been there.

At this point, law enforcement is keeping an eye out for the vehicle, and has checked with someone who lives near Grand Lake the suspect knows, Kasuba said. However, they hadn't heard from the suspect in some weeks.

He is described as a 5-foot 9-inch, 180-pound male with brown hair and brown eyes, Kasuba said. Anyone with information can call the department at 734-2156, or toll-free at 1-800-734-2156.

"We'll wait until he shows up, or the vehicle does, or he goes back home," he said. "I don't think he's a risk to anybody but himself at this point."
