Alpena baseball wins one, loses two in Sault Invitational

SAULT SAINT MARIE -The Alpena baseball team (19-7) lost two at the Sault Invitational on Saturday, losing 2-0 against the Sault, 11-4 against Escanaba and winning 16-1 against Shepherd.

Nick Skiba pitched a complete game in the first, giving up two hits, four walks and striking out two. He gave up no earned runs.

Zach Nash led offensively with a double while Evan Hamp picked up a single.

In the second game, Cody Tucker pitched for the loss, going four innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and walking two. Chris Modrzynski came in for an inning and gave up three hits but no earned runs.

Dylan Hoes picked up two hits and two RBIs.

Alpena mercied Shepherd 16-1 in three innings in the third game. Dylan Hoes led offensively with three hits, five RBIs and one home run. Brady Marwede had a home run and three RBIs.

Dylan Glennie also had a home run and three RBI's while Brad Styma had a double and two RBIs.

Alpena travels up to Sault again on Tuesday and host districts on Saturday at 10:00.

Ogemaw Heights 4, Rogers City 0

Gladwin 3, Rogers City 0

WEST BRANCH-The Rogers City baseball team dropped a pair in the Ogemaw Heights invitational on Saturday, losing 4-0 against Ogemaw and 4-3 against Gladwin.

Quintin Kelly took the took the loss for the Hurons (11-18, 5-7) pitching six innings allowing, three runs on two hits while striking out two.

Colton Fessler led offensively, 2-for-3.

The second game started out strong for Rogers City as a Jacob Malocha RBI single in the second put Rogers City up 2-0. Gladwin was able to come back and tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single. Gladwin took the lead in the 10th for the win.

Justin Saile went the first 4 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out three. Alex Andrzejewski took the loss in relief going the final five innings allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four.

Evan Lamb and Jacob Malocha were 2-for-3, both with an RBI. Paul Wilbert contributed two singles
