Michigan State Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of M-32 and Herron Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday that sent five people to the hospital, Trooper Spence Fletcher said. After investigating, police found the accident was caused when the driver of a pickup truck headed east on M-32 pulled into the Herron Road intersection and turned around to head back west. In doing so, the pickup driver turned in front of the driver of a four-door sedan, and the two vehicles collided. All occupants of both vehicles were injured, according to a news release. Michigan State Police was assisted by Alpena County sheriff’s deputies, Wilson Township firefighters and first responders, the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center Fire Department and City of Alpena ambulance.
