Cards take over first place in Ski Valley

BELLAIRE-The Onaway baseball team took sole possession of first place in the Ski Valley Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Bellaire on Thursday, 4-1 and 12-0.

Andrew Prow improved his season record to 4-0 with an opening-game win for the Cardinals (11-2, 7-0 SV). In six innings he allowed five hits, one earned run and no walks while fanning four.

Cody Whitsitt was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two doubles for Onaway. Tommy Auger was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Matt Tollini picked up the win for Onaway in the nightcap, allowing one hit and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings. He is 2-1 on the season.

Tollini was also 2-for-4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Andrew Perry was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Onaway plays at Atlanta on Saturday and will host Central Lake on Monday.

Alcona 4-10,

Oscoda 2-0

LINCOLN-Cody Franklin pitched another gem and the Alcona baseball team topped Oscoda in a doubleheader on Thursday, 4-2 and 10-0 (five innings).

Franklin struck out 15 and allowed two hits and three walks to earn the win in the first game. He also had a double.

Nathan Fettes tripled and Jared Steiner and Carson Jamieson each added a hit.

Jamieson got the win for the Tigers in the second game, allowing one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.

Franklin had a home run, Steiner was 2-for-3 and Austin Richardson and Joe Hudgins each had two hits.

Alcona (14-5, 7-1 Huron Shores Conference) will host an invitational tournament on Saturday and will play at Standish on Monday.

Rogers City 2-9,

Mio 4-7

MIO- The Rogers City baseball team split a pair of non-conference games with Mio on Thursday, losing the opener 4-2 and winning the second game 9-7.

Colton Fessler took the loss for Rogers City (5-9) in the opener, allowing four runs on five hits with one strikeout. He and Alex Andrzejewski each had two hits.

Evan Lamb earned the win for the Hurons in the nightcap, allowing four runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Paul Wilbert earned the save.

Casey Szatkowski was 3-for-4. Lamb, Wilbert and Jacob Malocha had two hits each.

Rogers City hosts Newberry on Tuesday.

Hillman JV 14-3, Joburg 4-0

HILLMAN- David Julka threw a no-hitter and the Hillman JV baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Johannesburg-Lewiston on Thursday, winning 14-4 and 3-0.

Julka won the second game for Hillman, striking out 13 batters and issuing one walk.

Trent Hopp was 1-for-3 and Dylan Steinke was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.

Hopp earned the win for Hillman in the opener, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out six.

Steinke was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and a walk; Mason VanPamel was 4-for-4; Dylan Ross was 3-for-4 with a triple and Sheldon Elkie was 2-for-3.

Hillman's varsity squad plays at Fairview on Monday.

SOFTBALL

Onaway 7-13,

Bellaire 0-0

BELLAIRE-Emily Estep threw two shutouts and the Onaway softball team topped Bellaire 7-0 and 13-0 in Ski Valley Conference action on Thursday.

In the opener, Estep allowed one walk, two hits and struck out eight in seven innings. She was also 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two runs scored.

Morganne Badgero was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Megan Estep was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run scored; Temara Lupu was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and scored twice; Lexi Szymoniak was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Sam Brasseur was 1-for-4 with a double.

Emily allowed two hits and struck out five in the nightcap in five innings. She was also 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Badgero was 2-for-4 with two runs scored; Megan Estep was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scored twice; Lupu was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored; Brasseur was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored three runs; Szymoniak was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI and Devin Bristley was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Rogers City 11-12, Mio 1-0

MIO-The Rogers City softball team hit the ball hard all day en route to taking two games from Mio on Thursday, 11-1 and 12-0.

Brooklyn Idalski earned the win for Rogers City (13-4) in the first game, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

Rogers City scored once in the third inning and took a 3-1 lead after four innings after a two-run home run from Morgan Hall. The Hurons broke the game open with an eight-run fifth inning.

Idalski had two hits, Alexa Quaine and Sarah Meredith each had a double and every Rogers City starter had at least one hit.

Nikki Radke and Quaine combined to scatter four hits in the nightcap.

Sarah Meredith had two hits including a triple; Rebecca Meredith had two hits; Cassie Brege had two hits including a double; Hall tripled; Logan Fleming and Nikkie LaLonde each doubled and Idalski and Brenna Hincka each had a hit.

The Hurons host Newberry on Tuesday.
