SOFTBALL

Rogers City 6-5, Cheboygan 1-6

ROGERS CITY-The Rogers City softball team split a double header with Cheboygan on Wednesday, winning the first by a commanding 6-1 and losing the second by a tight 6-5 score.

"It was a good double header and a hard fought split for the Hurons," head coach Karl Grambau said.

Nikkie Radke was the winning pitcher in the first game. She gave up one run, six hits and struck out five.

Nikki LaLonde and Courtney Streich led at the plate as both picked up two hits including a double and two RBIs. Brooklyn Idalski picked up a hit and an RBI. Logan Fleming snagged two hits while Rebecca Meredith got a single.

"Nikki pitched very good, the defense played very well and we had a lot of good movement in the field," Grambau said.

Radke started the first game and pitched one inning, giving up two runs and three hits. Alexa Quaine pitched the rest of the game, giving up four runs, nine hits and striking out two.

Cheboygan was able to eke out a win off of four sacrifice fly runs as well as a few missed chances by Rogers City.

"We had the bases loaded with Sarah (Meredith) Rebecca (Meredith) and Nikki (LaLonde) up next. That's a great lineup with the bases loaded but we were only able to get one run out of it. But we kept fighting till the end," Grambau said.

Rebecca Meredith led her team with two hits, two RBIs and a home run. Idalski and Fleming picked up two hits a piece while Streich, Sarah Meredith, LaLonde and Cassie Brege all picked up a hit.

Rogers City is now 11-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference. They travel to Mio today.
