ALCONA-The Alcona boys basketball team hosted Huron Shores rival Whittemore-Prescott on Monday and came up with a big 63-39 win.
The first quarter saw Alcona up 13-8.?The first half ended with Alcona taking a 26-17 lead.
Whittemore outscored Alcona in the third quarter but were unable to catch up, staying behind 38-30.
The fourth quarter saw Alcona really pull away from Whittemore, outscoring them almost three-to-one to take the win.
Alcona is now 12-4 overall and 4-1 in the league while Whittemore falls to 6-5 and 2-4 in the league.
Alcona hosts Tawas on Thursday to decide the league champ.
Hillman 50,?Hale 48
HALE-The?Hillman Tigers travelled to Hale and had the chance to avenge an earlier home game loss by squeaking by 50-48.
This win gave Hillman the number two spot in the North Star League beyond?Mio.
The first quarter saw Hale take a 11-2 lead. Hillman was able to gain some momentum to end the quarter down 16-12.
The first half ended with a 30-24 lead in a game that Hillman head coach Eric Muszynski called a back-and-forth game.
"We basically had to play methodically and chip at Hale constantly. We threw in a 2-3 zone which really gave us a spark,"?he said.
The third quarter ended with Hillman up by a 44-36 spread while Hale came within two of taking the game into overtime.
Top scorers for Hillman included Mike Klein with a career eight 18 points.?Hunter Fessler chipped in seven.
Hale's Italo Cicotti hit 14 while Dan Katterman hit 11.
"Brenden Zimmer and Mike Olschanski did a great job shutting down Italo. It forced other Hale players to try to score,"?Muszynski said.
Hillman is now 12-5 overall and 11-3 in the North Star League. They play again
