LINCOLN-The Alcona girls basketball team hosted the Hillman on Monday and held the Tigers off for a 55-52 win.
The first quarter saw Alcona up 19-15 while the half ended with Hillman up 24-23. Alcona regained the lead at the the end of the third quarter, 37-36.
Karina Cole was Alcona's top scorer with 20 points as well as five steals. Nikki Smith scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Megan Quick contributed a solid nine points while Kendra Cole scored six points and snatched 11 rebounds.
"Hillman had our number tonight. We were fortunate to have the lead at the end of the game. We were out played in every aspect," Alcona's coach Brad Cole said.
Alcona jumps up to 11-2 overall while Hillman falls to 7-8.
Tawas 47, Standish 46
TAWAS-The Tawas girls basketball team squeaked by Standish at home on Monday with a 47-46 win. The win came off a comeback that saw Tawas overcome a nine-point half time deficit.
"We were down at the half but in the second half we really started working harder. Things started to fall our way just how we needed it," Tawas head coach Todd Kaems said.
Standish led the first quarter 14-8 and pulled to a commanding 32-23 lead by the half. The third quarter saw Tawas (7-8) narrow the spread to 40-36 and kept pace with Standish in the fourth to win.
Top scorers for Tawas included Olivia Janis with 10 points, Ivy Schaaf, Tessa Schmidt and Belle Flory scored nine points while Serina Sciotti contributed eight. Standish's top scorers included Chloe King with 15 while Skyler Goodman hit 12.
Tawas moves up to 7-6. The Braves travel to Gladwin tonight.
