PI makes zoning, building fee increases March first

January 27, 2013

ROGERS CITY - The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners unanimously improved a slight increase to a number of building and zoning inspection and construction permit fees Friday.

The increases will become effective on March 1, and were made on the recommendation of Building and Zoning Official James Zakshesky. Most of the flat rates and charges based on square footage have been increased, with a new $5 addition for residential structure headers.

A few other changes include changing two commercial building permit categories and adding two more. There are now charges based on square footage for business and mercantile buildings, and for assembly, educational, high hazard, institutional and residential buildings.

Another change is for special inspections upon requests, which will range from $20 to $50, Zakshesky said. He requested the range because he's been asked to do some inspections that take little time to perform, while others are more involved. Rather than charge someone the full fee for a simple inspection, he wanted the option of charging based on the amount of time they take.

These rates had not been changed since March 2011, according to zoning department documents.
