Mio boys make it 8 in a row

MIO-The Mio boys basketball team just keeps on winning.

The Thunderbolts earned their eighth straight win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Tawas 56-41 at Mio High School.

Seth Thomey led a trio of Mio players in double figures with 14 points and added six rebounds and eight assists. Aaron Georgieff chipped in with 11 points and Ben Lubitz added 10 points for Mio (8-0, 7-0 North Star League).

Mio led 20-12 after the first quarter, but only led by six at the half, 28-22. The Thunderbolts responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Braves (1-6, 1-0 Huron Shores) 28-19.

Bryce Degrammont added six rebounds for Mio and Chaz Coffin paced Tawas with 13 points.

Mio hosts Posen on Friday.

Alcona 54, Fairview 44

LINCOLN-Carson Jamieson scored 18 points and Trenton LaVergne added 16 points as the Alcona boys basketball team beat Fairview 54-44 in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Alcona High School.

Alcona (5-1 overall, 1-0 Huron Shores) jumped out to a 20-2 lead after the first eight minutes. Fairview fought back in the second quarter to close the halftime gap to 28-17.

Fairview (2-6) edged Alcona 27-26 in the second half, but Alcona's first-quarter outburst kept them ahead for good.

"Carson Jamieson and Trenton LaVergne did a lot of work for us after we did a lot of subbing after the first quarter," Alcona coach Tim Somers said. "Those two young men stepped up and took control of the boards."

Jamieson had eight rebounds while LaVergne had seven.

Kasson Willobee paced Fairview with 20 points, Dustin Smith added 12 and David Haskin chipped in with nine.

Alcona hosts Posen tonight.

Alcona's JV team was also victorious over Fairview, besting the Eagles 49-28.

Posen 60,

Rogers City 19

ROGERS CITY-The Posen girls basketball team went to its bench early and often and rolled to a 60-19 win over Rogers City on Tuesday.

Korynn Hincka led Posen (11-0, 6-0 North Star League) with 27 points and Anna Couture added 12 points.

Posen jumped out to a 30-8 lead after the first quarter and cruised from there.

Rebecca Meredith led the Hurons with 6 points.
