Alpena Public Schools is seeking additional operating funds through a request for additional millage. The 1994 Proposal A law does not permit any other way for local public school districts to raise additional funds. APS joins the other school districts within the Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District to seek voter approval of three additional mills during the upcoming February 26 election.
A series of community informational meetings has been scheduled to help residents become informed about this important issue. Anyone with questions about the enhancement millage is invited to participate in these sessions (all meetings are 7 p.m.):
Jan. 15: Wilson School
Jan. 17: Besser School
Jan. 22: Hinks School
Jan. 24: Alpena High School
Jan. 29: Sanborn School
Jan. 31: Lincoln School
Feb. 5: Wilson School
Feb. 12: Hinks School
Feb. 19: Sanborn School
Representatives will be available to provide information and answer questions about the district's need for additional funds, how enhancement millage funds will be used by APS and the impact of this vote on our students and community.
