POSEN-For the last several seasons, the Posen girls basketball team has been the North Star League's model of consistency, so much so that it's been quite a while since a league opponent has handed the Vikings a loss.

Forty regular-season games to be exact.

Posen recorded its 40th straight regular season North Star League victory with a 75-8 win over Atlanta on Tuesday at Posen High School.

The Vikings (10-0 overall, 6-0 NSL) led 29-0 after the first quarter and used its depth to build a 50-2 halftime lead.

Korynn Hincka led Posen with 31 points and ten different Vikings players scored as Momrik used the game to give his bench some extended playing time.

"It gives our bench a chance to get in there," Momrik said. "We had a couple foreign exchange students that got some good minutes and it gives our team a chance to work on some offensive things that you might not get a chance to in other games."

Atlanta's lone basket in the first half came from Cheyenne Berryhill 15 seconds into the second quarter. The Huskies (1-7, 0-5 NSL) threw up a lot of shots, but couldn't also get them to fall. Atlanta also had to contend with a Posen defense that forced turnovers and was able to block quite a few attempts by the Huskies.

"We had some good shots. We probably shot more than we have in a couple games combined, they just weren't going in," Atlanta coach Melony Haskin said. "They ran the offense and that was good. It was good practice on defense because they were setting it up."

Berryhill recorded another basket in the second half and Kayla Durocher and Morgan Barrett also scored a basket each.

Offensively, Posen used its speed to create several fast break opportunities and outrebounded the Huskies to set up several long cross-court passes that resulted in easy buckets.

Ashley Meyers added 10 points for Posen and Kayla Lenard and Bev Bednarski each had eight points.

Posen held a 57-4 lead after three quarters, only scoring seven points, but ended the game with a 18-4 run in the final period.

After the game, Momrik reflected on his team's league winning streak, which extends back to the 2010 season. Posen's last league loss was a 54-46 loss at Mio on Jan. 21, 2010. With a number of competitive teams in the league each year, Momrik said the streak is a testament to his team's willingness to work hard.

"It's mind-boggling when you think about it," Momrik said. "When you think about some of the great players in the last three years- and there's been several really good ones- to have a 40-game winning streak, we couldn't have imagined something like this could happen, but here we are."
