Montmorency approves raises for employees

December 27, 2012

ATLANTA - The Montmorency County Board of Commissioners approved 3 percent raises for all county courthouse employees and elected officials, not including the board secretary and commissioners on Wednesday. The commissioners voted 3-2 in favor of the raises, which will be effective immediately, Commissioners Daryl Peterson and Bert LaFleche voted against it.

"It was brought up at the last minute by the clerk. I thought it was very poorly done especially after we just looked at the budget," Peterson said. "All union employees already got their raises, too."

Peterson said the board also approved its general fund budget for next year, which was previously presented and will have an organizational meeting at 9 a.m. on Jan, 2. Two new faces will be seen on the board during the next regular meeting when Ricky Ferguson and Gene Thornton take their seats representing District 2 and District 4.

"The commissioners were sworn in (Thursday) by Judge Fitzgerald," Peterson said. "I think it'll be much more organized and civilized as we move forward."
