Hincka hits 36 again in Posen win

AU GRES The Posen girls basketball team went to Au Gres Friday night and came back home with a big 74-40 win.

In an early battle between two unbeaten squads in the North Star League, Posen shot out to a 24-7 first quarter lead with a tenacious full-court press and never looked back.

Junior center Korynn Hincka scored 36 points for the third time in four games this season to lead the Vikings. Bev Bednarski chipped in with ten points, followed by Ashley Meyers and Anna Couture who each added nine.

Posen is now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in league play and will host Fairview on Tuesday.

Hillman 67, Atlanta 17

HILLMAN-The Hillman girls basketball team earned its first win of the season on Friday, defeating Atlanta 67-17 at Hillman High School in a North Star League contest.

Five Hillman players scored in double figures as the Tigers (1-2) took a 41-8 halftime lead and never looked back.

"It's always good to see the ball go in the basket. Now that we've got our first win we can focus on the tough schedule ahead of us," Hillman coach John Kuzewski said.

Maryah Hunt led Hillman with 12 points, Jensen Tchorzynski scored 11 and Morgan Hardies, Taylor Crawford and Alissa Jones each had 10.

Kayla Durocher led Atlanta with 12 points.

Hillman hosts Arenac Eastern on Monday.

Frankenmouth 47, Tawas 42

TAWAS- The Tawas girls basketball team hosted a game against Frankenmouth on Friday and lost 47-42. The first quarter saw Tawas up 17-7 but the game tightened considerably at the half as Frankenmouth narrowed the lead to 25-22.

The third quarter saw Frankenmouth go up 37-32 and the game ended with each team scoring 10 more points.

Tawas' top scorer was Ivy Slaaf with 20 points while Frankenmouth's top scorer for the night was Keri Frahm with 14 points.

The loss puts Tawas at 2-1. The Braves play at Alpena on Tuesday.


Sault 67,

Rogers City 14

ROGERS CITY The Rogers City boys basketball team only mustered up 14 points in its Friday night meeting with Sault Ste. Marie at home, 67-14.

Chris Lopez scored 11 points to lead the Hurons (0-2) and Sault's Ray'Shon Anderson outscored Rogers City by himself with 16 points.

Fairview 64,

Arenac Eastern 54

TWINING The Fairview boys basketball team travelled to Arenac Eastern Friday night for a North Star League game and came away with a 64-54 win.

Austin Handrich led Fairview 25 points and Hudson Szubelak had 22.
