Thunder Bay Theatre is offering an opportunity to light up your Christmas spirit with the upcoming "Snowed in with Thunder Bay Theatre's Youth Acting Class Fundraiser."
The show, set for Dec. 13-15, features many favorite holiday classics, along with some recent tunes. Listeners will hear songs ranging from Elvis to those dating back to the 16th century.
Along with music, the show incorporates acting and dancing elements that are just as entertaining.
Appearing in “Snowed in with Thunder Bay Theatre’s Youth Acting Class Fundraiser” are, back row left, Riley McGuire, Yves Hayoz, Molly Stricker, Dylan Goike, Courtney Marshall, Caitlin Borke, Mariah Purol and Landen Revilla. In the front row are Lillian Broad, Hannah Matzke, Mandee Henkel and Colin Marshall. Not pictured are Zach Clement, Mackenzie Fountain and Travis Atkinson.
"Snowed In" is full of variety, and will take you from being a soldier overseas during Christmas, to being a Grinch who can't seem to catch the infectious joy of the holiday season.
This past spring, TBT's acting class put on a Disney-themed fundraiser.
"Last year, we had such an amazing turnout from the community, that we wanted to do it again," said Director Caitlin Borke. "Christmas just seemed like the perfect time a gift to the community, as well as a chance to earn money for our program."
The money earned from the fundraiser will go toward a trip to New York, where the students will attend seminars, watch Broadway shows and learn what is expected of them in an audition.
"Here's what I find wonderful," said J.R. Rodriguez, TBT artistic director and acting class instructor. "These guys did this on their own. I couldn't be more proud. These kids are so determined to get to New York, they have taken it upon themselves to raise this money. They are a force to be appreciated."
Rodriguez also is enthused that the fundraiser will provide an opportunity for others to see how talented the group of students is.
"This will be a night of wonderful songs, but what is more incredible is the talent you will see on stage," he said. "You're helping a wonderful cause, and you get to spend time with some of the most talented kids you could ever meet."
For the past three years, the youth acting class has met once a week to expand their knowledge on all aspects of theatre. They discuss history, practice various acting techniques and meet guest speakers. They have the opportunity to apply these skills by participating in the fundraiser.
The set of "Snowed In" gives a homey feeling, as it is a living room with frames of this year's shows hanging on the walls, along with personalized stockings and ornaments from the cast.
Music director and accompanist for the show is local company member, Greg Adamus. The script is written by Travis Atkinson, props and costumes are handled by Mariah Purol and Courtney Marshall, and Colin Marshall is videographer.
Joining the show are core company members Hannah Matzke, Mackenzie Fountain and Zach Clement (who is also working as tech director and stage manager.) Mustapha Zorgati will be running lights for the show. Other students include Lillian Broad, Dylan Goike, Yves Hayoz, Mandee Henkel, Riley McGuire, Landen Revilla, Molly Stricker, and Sandi Schmidt.
