This weekend one of our favorite Christmas traditions continues at locations around Alpena.
Today and tomorrow members of Alpena Lions Club will be selling copies of the famous Lions Old Newsboys newspaper. The annual collector's edition is a parody based around a pertinent news story that is produced by the staff of The Alpena News.
In a solid partnership between The News and Alpena Lions, the newspaper staff produces and prints the newspaper at no cost to the Lions, who in turn supply the manpower to peddle it around the community.
Money raised from the sales will be donated to the Alpena Salvation Army as part of its red kettle campaign. Everyone involved is hoping for at least $3,000 in sales this year.
What is the focus of this year's story?
Unfortunately, we can't share that here - you'll have to purchase your own copy and read it for yourself. Once again, however, that crusty curmudgeon, R.U. Cerius, has wiped the dust off his trusty Underwood typewriter to hammer out another Pulitzer-worthy tale.
Remember, every penny donated goes to a worthy cause, so dig deep and give generously when you see that newspaper hawker peddling his wares.
