Local runners run in Detroit Free Press Marathon

As the local running community continues to grow; so do competitors in longer races such as the half-marathon (13.1 miles) and the marathon (26.2 miles).

In October alone, 19 local runners have already competed in at least one of these events.

In the Detroit Free Press Marathon, completing the race were, Wayne Christopherson (3:47), Flynt Schulze (4:39), Gina Smigelski (4:45), Chris Mutschler (5:01), Sandra Edwards (5:28) and Steve Kieliszewski (5:47). Running the Free Press Half Marathon were, J.D. Niergarth (1:35), Daniel Bilyeu (1:56), Shellie Gohl (2:13), Cheryl Mack (2:13), Nancy Niergarth (2:23), Brandy Mutschler (2:23), Vicki Goldburne (2:31), Cori Williams (2:31), and Brandi Gapske (3:11). Running the Grand Rapids Marathon on the same day were Chris Bullock (3:21) and Cathy Green (3:55). Bullock also ran Friends of the Falling Waters Trail Marathon, Sault Area Chamber Chase Marathon, and the Woodstock Marathon this fall, with Master's division wins in Falling Waters, and Sault Marathon. Running in the TCTC Lighthouse Half-Marathon were Jerry Tracey (2:18) and his daughter Danielle Ford (2:18).

Alcona's Quick qualifies for state finals

LAKE CITY-Megan Quick of Alcona ran in the Lake City cross country regional on Friday and qualified for the state finals. with a time of 21:06. She placed eighth out of 100 girls.
