The cost of Medicare in 2012 is over $12,000 per person per year. The cost to people on Medicare is less than $1200 per year.
Are you paying the extra $11,000 a year for your coverage? Have you ever? Have you ever paid $12,000 a year out of your pocket for your health insurance? Are you entitled to a Mercedes when you pay for a Kia? Are you entitled to a mansion when you buy a condo? Are you entitled to a yacht when you buy a canoe?
The old adage may be "Neither a borrower nor a lender be," but I'm a bit more blunt: We are not entitled to something we didn't pay for. Medicare reform is needed to protect future generations. Your fear is not a moral reason for destroying the financial future of the next generations. We can only hope that the next generation is better at electing politicians who understand basic math.
