I recently watched the Vice Presidential debate on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, and they debated the Medicare voucher idea. The Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States, Paul Ryan pushed his Medicare Voucher program. This voucher idea has appeal in that it appeals to the basic emotions that we all possess:
This is how it would work, instead of the government paying Medicare and Medicare paying for our health care needs, their voucher system would pay the individual at that point, and the individual could: A)Buy private insurance or B) Pay Medicare to pay their health bills. Sounds good, right? Wrong.
What's wrong with this system? The moment the government stops paying Medicare, the system will collapse. Then you are left with just private insurance. The very expensive private insurance. This is a classic con game, meaning that this voucher idea has intended to defraud, and Dr. Benishek and the Republican Party support this idea. I repeat if you pull funding from Medicare and send it to the individual, the Medicare system as we know it will collapse.
This is like driving a 50-ton truck over a 10-ton bridge and doing so intentionally, just so you can scrap the steel after the bridge falls - only in this particular case, instead of scrapping steel you will end up scrapping the Medicare program. Vote Democratic, don't let this happen.
