LINCOLN-The Alcona volleyball team won its match against Hale on Monday in three games. The scores for the three games were 25-9, 25-16 and 28-26.
Kaitelyn Nelson had five aces on the night. Carly Mitchell earned 12 kills while Karina Cole earned five digs.
The Tigers play again in Oscoda on Monday.
Hillman goes 2 and 4 in Onaway tourney.
ONAWAY-The Hillman volleyball team went 2-4 on Saturday at a tournament in Onaway.
The Tigers began the day with losses to Cheboygan (14-25, 14-25), Harbor Springs (17-25, 24-25) and Onaway (18-25, 13-25), but bounced back to defeat Mancelona 25-18 and 25-18.
Jensen Tchorzynski was named Hillman's MVP for the tournament, tallying 15 service points, four aces, eight kills and 13 digs; Abby Olree added 11 service points, 13 kills, 11 digs and four blocks; and Chelsey Painter and Alissa Jones contributed 20 assists and 14 service points respectively.
Hillman plays at Atlanta tonight and at Fairview on Thursday.
Alpena competes at Portage Invite
PORTAGE-The Alpena High School cross country teams competed in the Portage Invitational on Saturday and had several runners post career or season-best times.
The Alpena boys team finished 25th out of 38 teams and was led by Ethan Crowell, who finished 39th and ran a career-best time of 16:21 and also medaled.
RJ Centala ran a career-best 17:15; Eli Martin ran a career-best 17:16; Jacob Benson finished in 17:25 and Ben Diamond ran a career-best time of 18:08.
The Alpena girls team finished 17th out of 33 teams and six of Alpena's runners posted new best times.
Elaine Lowe ran a career-best time of 19:12 and was Alpena's top finisher, taking 32nd to medal for the Wildcats.
Kelsey Lewis ran a career-best 19:40; Racheal McDonald ran a career-best 20:03; Amanda Dort ran a career-best 21:18; Leah Centala ran a season-best time of 21:55 and Christine Burke ran a career-best time of 22:14.
