With all the focus on this year's presidential and state elections, many of us forget that it is also our responsibility to keep informed about those involved in our local government elections. I am one of those citizens who is deeply concerned for the future of our city, county, and surrounding areas. While we all know that the actions of the national and state governments impacts our daily lives, it is our local elected officials who have the ability to make changes and get Alpena moving in the correct direction.
Jorden Susewitz is a local candidate running for Alpena County Commissioner, District 1, and he truly holds the success of our community close to his heart. He is a passionate citizen who understands the importance of allowing small businesses to grow with reduced government control, resulting in new local jobs and stronger economy. He also understands the importance of working with other officials to develop local budgets that will help overcome current economic hardships and ensure success for our future generations. Mr. Susewitz also has takes great pride in trying to find new ways to promote Alpena. The Alpena area has so many things to offer, and we should try to elect local officials that are genuinely interested in using what we have to create excitement and draw people to the area.
National elections are important, but please keep in mind that electing local officials who are passionate and are looking out for ours, and our children's future are just as important. It is for this reason that residents in District 1 should vote for Jorden Susewitz for Alpena Country Commissioner on Nov. 6, 2012.
