Editorial: Kendziorski plan to benefit rink, skaters deserves support

October 4, 2012
The Alpena News

Former Alpena businessman Mike Kendziorski is an astute evaluator of issues, especially when they involve areas he is passionate about.

One of Kendziorski's great passions over the years has been Northern Lights Arena, where he has donated his money, time and sweat equity. Thus, when he offers insight about operations there, it is the wise man who should listen and pay heed.

It is Kendziorski's contention that there has been a softening of the lines of dissension surrounding management operations at the arena, and that the time has come for everyone to rally together and move forward united.

The former owner of Perch's IGA said he has observed a thaw in the relations between the Park Family Foundation, arena management and M-PAC members. To continue mending those fences, Kendziorski is acting at the intermediary in bringing everyone together in support of a fundraiser that will benefit the youth of the community.

"What I like now is all of them are starting to work together and that is what we need to make this continue to grow," he said of the arena in a news story Wednesday. "It is one of the jewels for the youth - the kids are the most important thing in the community."

The fundraiser will be held Nov. 3 and its goal will be to raise enough money for the first-time skaters program to continue its financial viability for years down the road.

The first-time skaters program is an important transition for families to get their children involved in skating, without having to outlay the expenses for equipment and gear. We believe it is exactly the type of program that makes our community special, and unique.

We would be thrilled to see the collective energy of M-PAC members join forces with Park Foundation staff and management to create a collective "vibe" at the arena that would be both exciting and progressive oriented.

With Kendziorski's oversight and prodding, what once might have seemed impossible today hopefully can be converted into probable.

If he succeeds, all of us benefit.
