HILLMAN - The Hillman Village Council approved two bids during its Tuesday evening meeting, both were accepted for village maintenance and safety issues.

The first approved bid calls to replace two pumps on the village cooling pond at a total cost of $4,908.16, which was not the lowest bid. However, under the recommendation of DPW Supervisor John Burr Sr., the slightly higher bid was approved by the council.

"We wanted to replace two of the 14-year-old pumps located on the east end of First Street at the cooling pond," Village President Myron McIntire said. "This way fish and plant life in the river won't be harmed."

The second approved bid was awarded to Arbor-Tech, a Hillman based tree and landscaping company, that has not previously worked for the council.

"We have a tree that needs to be removed over top of a resident's house," McIntire said. "The council went with the lowest bid, upon proof of licensing and insurance. I think the council wants to give these people the opportunity to show us what they can do."

The tree removal bid was awarded to Arbor-Tech for a total cost of $650.
