GAYLORD- Ashton Dever scored a touchdown and rushed for 115 yards on nine carries to lead the Alpena football team to its first win of the season over Gaylord on Friday night by a score of 36-21.
Alpena (1-4) jumped out to a seven-point lead early in the game, ending the first quarter with a14-7 lead after a 35-yard pass from Brady Marwede to Chandler Bloom and a 51-yard run by Dever.
The Wildcats then shut out the Blue Devils until the third quarter, ending the first half with a 24-7 lead after a 22-yard pass from Marwede to Jacob Kline and a 37-yard field goal from Riley Garant.

"It's definitely exciting. The boys really needed this and they played so hard," Alpena coach Jason Dubey said. "In the first half we were firing on all cylinders. We got the pass game going and the run game going and our defense played well."
Marwede was 13-for-19, throwing for 204 yards and two touchdown passes. Tim Atkinson went 1-for-1, making a 25-yard pass. Dylan Thrasher had four carries for 32 yards and Bloom had five carries for 43 yards.
In the second half, Dylan Thrasher added a one-yard touchdown and Marwede added a one-yard touchdown run for Alpena's last score.
The Wildcats host Cheboygan next week.
Led by a potent offensive attack, the Alpena JV football team jumped out to a 42-14 lead after three quarters and cruised home from there, improving to 4-1 with a 42-30 win over Gaylord on Thursday.
On offense, the Wildcats had numerous contributors and racked up more than 350 yards of total offense.
Tyler Pintar threw for more than 250 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, passing for two and running for two.
Jay Dutcher had two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving and Nick Lee also had a touchdown catch.
Ben Manning had 100 rushing yards and a touchdown and also came up with an interception on defense.
Defensively, Josh Bell, Robert Burke and John Mack led Alpena and Andrew Fournier had a fumble recovery.
The JV team plays next week at Cheboygan.
WHITTEMORE-The Alcona football team had trouble stopping a potent Whittemore-Prescott offense on Friday and lost to the Cardinals 41-16 in a Huron Shores Conference game.
The Cardinals were able to get by Alcona's defense and the Tigers had trouble stopping Whittemore through the air and on the ground.
Garrette Norling scored for Alcona in the first quarter on a three-yard run, but Alcona (3-2) trailed 28-6 at the half.
The Tigers added a safety in the third quarter and Cody Franklin found the endzone on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter with Nathan Fettes adding a two-point conversion.
Alcona plays at Oscoda next Friday in its final conference game of the season.
