Public doesn’t want company to have permit

September 14, 2012
The Alpena News

Elmer's asphalt company has made application for a permit at the Bolen Pit in Herron. They state the plant operations will be April through November. The residents and landowners have expressed the fact that they do not want the plant and the local zoning board has not rejected the permit to this point. Another meeting is scheduled to be held at the Wilson Township Hall on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. All the information that I can find in conjunction with a asphalt plant points to toxic emissions as well as contamination to the ground and surrounding area. Even the wildlife in the area will be affect by this if permitted. Please help fight this permit and attend the meeting. I would hope that the local media would also help support the fight for protecting our rights as well.
