Got a blank wall in need of a piece of art?
The Community Outreach Committee of Alpena Regional Medical Center's Development Council has come up with a unique fundraiser that might be the solution.
The committee will have approximately 70 pieces of artwork up for auction in a gala event this Saturday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the APlex. The twist is that all of the art is "gently" used, and donated by committee members and other friends of the hospital.
Alpena?Regional Medical Center’s Community Outreach Committee members, from left, chair Kathy Garant, Mary Lappan and Barb Chrzan, show off several of the pieces of art that will be available for sale at this weekend’s Framed, a Previously Viewed Art Auction. The event is Saturday from 5:30-8 p.m. at the APlex.
"We all have art pieces around our homes that because we've remodeled or redecorated, they no longer fit the color scheme. The art is still perfectly good and might look wonderful in someone else's home," said ARMC Development Director Ann Diamond.
This first-time event is being called Framed, a Previously Viewed Art Auction. It provides a chance not only to raise money for the hospital, but also for people to place silent bids on the artwork while enjoying appetizers, music and visiting with friends.
A sampling of the artwork offered includes a print by Chris Wozniak, wildlife photographs by Carl Sams, a framed needlework piece by Margaret Lappan, and an original piece of glasswork by Augie and Peggy Matuzak.
"The Development Council's Community Outreach Committee and Alpena Regional Medical Center are excited to offer this unique event to our community," Diamond said. "While it will not only raise funds for advanced technology at our hospital, we hope it will be an event that people can enjoy, connect with friends. have fun and find some new artwork for their homes, cottages and camps."
The Community Outreach Committee ordinarily keeps busy with hosting educational events for the public such as the fall Take Time for You lunch series and the spring Pressure to be Perfect seminar for pre-teens and teens.
With this new event, however, committee members were looking to do a little more for the hospital and the community.
"The committee wanted to do an event to raise money for the hospital. The members worked hard to host this auction and we are looking forward to a very successful evening," Diamond said. "There will be something for everyone."
Tickets to Framed, a Previously Viewed Art Auction are $25 and can be purchased at Neiman's Family Market or by contacting the ARMC Marketing and Development office at 356-7351.
Serving on the committee are chair Kathy Garant, Vicki Bridge, Barb Chrzan, Mari Crow, Vera Kavanaugh, Barb Kett, Mary Lappan, Jeanne Ludlow, Michelle McLain and Julie Usher.
The committee's latest Take Time for You lunch series is coming up soon. Details are as follows:
All of the programs are open to the public and held in the ARMC Auditorium. They are from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $5 and includes lunch.
