Area residents looking for a fun way to support active military troops and veterans will have a chance to do so starting later this month at Thunder Bowl Lanes.
Thunder Bowl is holding a fundraising event for the Bowling to Veterans Link in November. This event lasts from Sept. 17 to Nov. 26 on Mondays from 9-11 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
"That's so people don't have to stay up too late or get up too early," Thunder Bowl co-owner John Snyder said with a laugh.
November is a month traditionally associated with BVL fundraising. If attendance is high enough, Snyder plans on holding 50/50 events through BVL Charities.
Participation in the event is $15 per person with two people bowling in each lane. All ages are welcome to the event.
"It makes no difference," Snyder said, "If you want to bring your kids, your mom, friends or military buddies. It's just a great way to come out, support your veterans and have a little fun."
All participants in the event get a ticket which is then entered into a drawing for a 30-foot bowling lane donated by Thunder Bowl to be sent anywhere in the world to an individual in the armed forces or an armed forces unit.
The BVL is a nonprofit charity founded in 1942. It is not affiliated with the government but raises money to help entertain veterans and help increase the effectiveness of their recovery. The BVL helps raise money to buy hospital equipment for Veterans Affairs hospitals, pays for veteran travel expenses and many other charitable activities.
People that aren't interested in bowling but are interested in a chance to win the lane can come to Thunder Bowl and donate five dollars to enter.
Anybody interested in participating can call Thunder Bowl at 356-3711.
