Welcome SkyWest Airlines to Alpena.
The new service in and out of Alpena began Wednesday and both airline and local officials are hoping the service will quickly become a favorite of customers. Service to both Detroit and Minneapolis is offered.
"We are excited to be in Alpena and to provide passengers with increased access to two of Delta's biggest hubs, Minneapolis and Detroit, and hundreds of destinations from there," said Mike Thompson, SkyWest Airlines vice president of market development.
"Our focus is to help build self-sustaining service in Alpena, that's a goal everyone in the community can help us achieve by flying local."
That is so true, and is something local officials have been stressing now for months after the designation of SkyWest for Alpena by Department of Transportation officials. Everyone worked hard to ensure a reliable air carrier would service the airport, and now that one is on board, it is up to area citizens to support it.
SkyWest will be utilizing a 50-passenger CRJ200 in its service to Alpena. The airline, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, has a fleet of 314 aircraft that make 1,800 flights each day to 165 destinations in North America.
We look forward to a wonderful working relationship with SkyWest, and are confident residents really are going to appreciate their reliable service and ease of travel.
