Alpena volleyball found their groove early at the Alpena Quad last night. They beat Cheboygan, Posen and Rogers City to win the tournament.
Alpena started strong by beating Cheboygan 25-15 in the first game. This game was highlighted by strong serving from Ami Milligan, Breanna Bourdage and Mikaela Overton.
Milligan lead the team with a cumulative 25 aces and 61 assists. Bourdage lead the team with 29 kills, followed by Emma Strong with 15, Logan Meyers with 11 and Taylor Genshaw with 10.

The second game also featured stellar serving from Overton and Milligan. After 18 serves, Alpena was comfortably in the lead 13-5.
Alpena followed up this lead with a five point scoring run by Genschaw. This moved the game up to 18-5 putting the game comfortably in their hands.
Cheboygan did make a noble comeback, including solid serving from Corrie Bongard and Abby Ackerman. Unfortunately for Cheboygan it wasn't enough as they ended up losing 25-11.
The third game was a much harder fought match by Cheboygan. Julia Sturvist started the game with a four point serving streak. Alpena's game also became a little sloppier during the third game with lots of dropped balls and timing errors.
After 34 hard fought volleys, Cheboygan was up 18-16. Another 11 volleys followed with Cheboygan up 22-23. However, a three point scoring streak by Meyers gave Alpena the match.
Alpena went on to beat Posen in three games, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-10. They won two against Rogers City, 25-25, 25-23 but lost the third 21-25.
Posen lost the first and third games to Rogers City 17-25 and 14-25 respectively. However, they won the second game 25-23.
Posen lost to Cheboygan all three games, 9-25, 23-25 and 14-25.
Rogers City lost their first and third games against Cheboygan, 25-21 and 25-16 respectively and won the second game 25-19.
Alpena plays again on Monday while Rogers City plays Saturday and Posen on Tuesday.
