On Thursday, Huron Undercover Narcotics Team detectives concluded an investigation that led to the arrest of a 56-year-old Alcona County man for trafficking marijuana.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence which revealed growing marijuana plants, approximately 1-4 pound of processed marijuana, and several firearms, one of which was loaded. The suspect, who was lodged in the Alcona County Jail, has prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and second degree murder. The Alcona County Prosecutor's Office authorized charges of:
The man did not have a medical marijuana card and was therefore not allowed to process, sell, or grow marijuana.
"This is exactly the kind of activity and type of offender that we need the HUNT team to deal with," Alcona County Prosecutor Thomas Weichel said. "They are especially suited to conduct covert surveillance, make undercover purchases of drugs, draft and execute search warrants, and take these kinds of offenders off our streets. This investigation could not have been done without HUNT, and this suspect would still be free to endanger our community had they not done what we pay them to do. We need HUNT in Alcona County."
