TRAVERSE CITY The Alpena soccer team fell to Traverse City Central 5-0 Thursday night in Traverse City.
Central scored within the first five minutes of the game, then again with about a minute left in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead at the half. A third goal was scored within the first couple minutes of the second half.
Beyond those plays, Alpena played competitively, but head coach Tim Storch said the Wildcats need to improve on their five-minute rule, focusing on the first five minutes and the last five minutes of each half.
The loss moves the Wildcats record to 1-4 overall, and 0-2 in the Big North Conference.
Rapid River 54,
POSEN Rapid River left Posen with a hefty win under its belt Thursday night, beating the Vikings 54-14.
The Rockets had a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and extended it to 24-8 at the half. Rapid River jumped to a 46-8 lead in the third quarter.
Nick Hincka scored the first Posen touchdown on a six-yard run with Lucas Litwinski scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run. Hincka had 11 carries for 96 yards and connected on three passes for 81 yards.
Litwinski led Posen in tackles with 23, followed by John Zaborney with 14 tackles and two sacks.
Alpena earns nine points at Big North?
The Alpena tennis team played in the Big North Invite yesterday. They scored nine points as a team. Abram Purol placed third in the singles divison while Andree Gagnon and Greg Kucharek both placed fifth. Samyak Harsh and Noah Barney-Steinke scored second place in the doubles divison.
