Hillman wins season opener

GAYLORD- The Hillman Tigers beat Gaylord St. Mary 27-14 Friday on the gridiron to win their season opener.

Kenny Kolcan scored two touchdowns and tallied 201 rushing yards; Alex Cheek followed closely behind, scoring one touchdown and rushing for 124 yards. Travis Powers caught a three-yard pass for a touchdown.

The Tigers made a lot of mistakes in their first game and have quite a few things to work on, but played hard through the mistakes to get the win, according to coach Bill Koenig.

Cedarville 54, Posen 14

The Posen football team dropped its season opener 54-14 to Cedarville on Friday.

Brandon Dietz had 78 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Vikings (0-1) and was also 5-for-15 with 61 passing.

Lucas Litwinski had 48 yards and a touchdown on six carries and led Posen defensively with 15 tackles.

Martin Mulka had three catches and 10 tackles and Nick Hincka had 11 tackles.


Alpena finishes 7th in Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY WEST-The Alpena girls golf team finished seventh at the Traverse City Invitational on Friday with a team score of 461. Traverse City Central was the winner with a score of 331 and Central's Courtney Dye was the day's top golfer with a 72.

Kelsey Diamond led Alpena with a 98.
