ALPENA - The Alpena County IT department is hoping to have the new website dedicated to the Unmanned Vehicle System Center project up and running soon. A portion of the website is currently online at www.mi-uasc.com, but other parts of it won't be available until some of the content is approved by the county's consultant Explorer Solutions provides the approved data.
Alpena County Regional Airport Manager Billi McRoberts said there are still a few loose ends Explorer Solutions is trying to tie up in terms of non-disclosure agreements before more details are posted on the Internet. She said once approval is given, the website will provide information to potential partners and the public about what is brewing at the airport.
"It is still under construction, but there are a few pictures which show the facilities, accommodations and testing sites," McRoberts said. "We're waiting for the consultant to get permission for our partnering companies, so it may be a little more time yet."
Commissioner Cam Habermehl said there was more information posted on the website but it was removed at the recommendation of Explorer Solutions. He said because the website will provide detailed information to other entities that may want to partner in the project, he thinks the sooner the website is up and running the better.
"There is no timeline in place and I'm not going to give a date to when it will be up but we have been contacted by more potential partners and I told them information will be on the website soon," Habermehl said. "The interest in the project is there, so it is important we get it up and running as soon as we can."
