Tests return; beach safe for swimming

Lakeside Park Beach in Rogers City is safe for swimming and water-related activities. District Health Department No. 4 has received lab results from additional water samples taken at the beach and E-coli bacteria levels have returned back to normals.

DHD?No. 4 issued a warning Friday about the beach being unsafe because recent rainfall and storm water runoff may have contributed to the elevated bacteria levels, as well as a high level of waterfowl activity along the shoreline.

The health department also reminds residents to clean up animal waste from their yards and properly dispose of it.

Animal waste that is left in yards or on the street could eventually get washed into storm drains and end up in Lake Huron.

The health department will continue to monitor beaches on a regular basis to assure a safe and healthy recreational experience.
