Surprise us, surprise county clerks, and surprise your fellow voters. Turn out and vote in Tuesday's primary election. We aren't holding our breath, but we are hopeful.
Why, you ask? History.
Based on past primary elections, about one in four registered voters in Alpena County will turn out to vote Tuesday. The numbers are about the same in Presque Isle, Montmorency and Alcona counties.
What that means is 25 percent of the voters determine the results of the entire election.
So we ask, do you want that to happen?
We've heard the argument that they are just primary elections, but if you look, many of the primary elections will decide who earns the seat as there are no candidates in the opposing party.
And don't forget about the ballot issues. There are millage proposals in our area counties for 911, fire, emergency rescue, roads and more. These are services vital to our area.
So we say again, surprise us and turn out to vote on Tuesday.
