The Brown Trout Festival is a terrific time for Alpena. It brings many down state and local families together to have a great time; but for the life of me, I don't understand why the Brown Trout Committee continues to use the foul mouth Fish Weigh-In Announcer who makes vulgar comments. While working the past three years at the festival, I've witnessed many parents with young children and grandparents with grand kids watching and listening to the announcer's foul language. I can't help but wonder if the parents and grandparents wish they could shield the ears of the children. Knowing what they would hear, I certainly wouldn't bring my grand kids.
In Oscoda, a few years ago, at an outdoor sporting event, a man was arrested for shouting profane language. In Alpena, we go one step further and let the man spewing profanities use a microphone. We let it go out through the loud speakers year after year with no one stopping it.
On another note, I wonder how Martin Skiba felt when he heard the announcer say he'd won the Super Tournament enough and he needed to give someone else a chance. Martin is an excellent fisherman and beating him is part of the challenge.
