Overseas labels downplay thrill of Olympics

July 19, 2012
The Alpena News

As the 2012 Summer Olympics are set to open, I have been ready to cheer on the American Team. And now we have learned that Alpena has a connection with three local Alumni as Gymnastics coaches.

The excitement of this news has vanished today with the report that the USA Olympic team will be wearing uniforms at the opening ceremony that carry overseas labels. This includes "made in China" labels.

The team will still be in my heart but I will not watch the coverage from London.

This is just as bad as having our American flag made in another country.

The question should be asked that since Mitt Romney is so proud of his "saving the Olympics" job he did, someone should ask him what he thinks of all these uniforms being made by overseas companies.

I do realize that it is very hard to "buy American" in our everyday lives but buying American should be a top priority.
