The grand marshal for parade was ignored

The Alpena News

Where was the media

July 4th in Alpena has passed, I'm writing this letter to tell you about the Grand Parade Marshal. She is the Guinness World Record holder of "longest continuous career as a bartender." This Sept. 6, will start her 72nd year. June 2 she celebrated her 93rd birthday. She is owner of Maplewood Tavern. Her name is Clarise Kramer Cadarette Grzenkowicz, My Mother rode a trik motorcycle behind her nephew Jim Berndt. She was followed by two more motorcycles. Bob and Pat Bartlomiej and Neil LaCombe. The riders are all lifelong friends of Clarise. She rode for 40 minutes in 90 plus degree weather.

There were no pictures or interviews. WATZ radio did talk about Mother several days prior to the parade using a news release from the Alpena Chamber of Commerce. A couple second glimpse of her on WBKB TV and two days later a mention in The Alpena News was the sum total of her reward for grace under fire, I'm referring to the intense heat.

Jim Johnston, Huron Distributors made the suggestion that Mother be the parade marshal. Since the parade, several people are questioning the non response of the media. What happened to the idea of keeping the community informed? By their absence, they missed a chance to see and talk to a wonderful, graceful and yes, famous woman who did an outstanding job at an important event.
