Be careful, crime is on the rise in the area

July 13, 2012
The Alpena News

Has anyone else noted an increase in the crime rate lately? It seems over the last few months we are seeing more break-ins, vandalism and other serious crimes. Here are a couple of recent examples: About a month ago, my brother-in-law had his truck stolen from the Sable St area. It was found, beat up but useable. Then last week someone broke into his locked truck and stole his wallet and phone from his console. I have another friend whose daughter has had her car broke into a few times as well. This happened a few blocks from Public Safety so the thief was either brave or stupid I guess. There is a lady missing from Ossineke. There was a death under suspicious circumstances in the same town. My family just had a scare as well, two men showed up in the yard and one attempted to walk into my home where my teenage daughters were hiding. He gained access and my dogs ran him off. Then he attempted to enter once more before being run off by my family pets. This happened in broad daylight on the main highway with my neighbor mowing his grass next door. It has been reported to the police. The reason I chose to write to the editor about this is because we need to be aware of what is happening around us for the safety of our families and our neighbors. Be alert to people that seem out of place. Secure your home. Go over emergency procedures with your loved ones. If you see or suspect a crime is being committed, call the police. If you think bad things happen elsewhere, think again. I hope this reminder helps members of this community to be a little safer and more careful.
