Northeast Michigan rocks in July!
Thursday's newspaper headline said it all: "Alpena celebrates in style."
And, obviously, not only Alpena, but all of Northeast Michigan.
While the Fourth's heat perhaps slowed down some, the crowds out and about across the region were numerous. From sand castles to cardboard boat races, bandshell concerts to summer picnics, parades to fireworks, the region definitely put its best face forward.
Literally, the community seemed to be bursting at the seams on the Fourth. People were everywhere! If you paid attention to vehicle license plates, you would have seen many around town from out-of-state.
And, while the Fourth's falling mid-week might logistically have been problematic for some out-of-town visitors planning their vacations, in actuality the holiday fun continues through the weekend around the region with more special events and more fireworks displays.
Unofficially, the Fourth of July always has been our region's Homecoming for many families.
As evidence by events this week, it's easy to understand why.
