It is clear from Mr John Kerr's angst that he blames Republicans for free trade agreements in his letter "Republicans ruined it for the working man." While I won't discuss the actual economic impact of free trade agreements, his statements are misrepresentative of some facts.
The largest free trade agreement, NAFTA, was signed into law by a Democrat (Bill Clinton) in 1993. In 1993, the Democrats controlled both the Senate and the House of Representatives, both passed NAFTA. In both those legislative bodies, nearly as many Democrats as Republicans voted for NAFTA.
So when you see "made in Mexico" or your manufacturing job is outsourced, blaming Republicans ignores historical fact.
Ever see "made in Korea" labels on your products? In 2010, in the middle of our economic recession, another Democrat (Barack Obama) renewed the trade agreement with South Korea.
I am not suggesting either party is blameless when it comes to the economy. Frankly I think most housewives have proven they can balance a budget better than our career politicians. I am merely pointing out that the Democratic party has at least equal blame in destroying jobs and in the largest free trade agreement cited by Mr. Kerr, he has blamed Republicans erroneously.
