ROSCOMMON-The Alpena 11-12 All-Star baseball team opened pool play with a 5-4 win over Hillman on Monday in Roscommon.
Bailey Marquardt pitched five innings and struck out six before Rhett McDonald came on to pitch one inning in relief.
Alpena had hits from AJ Nowak, Nick Esch, Josh Lucas, Logan Guthrie, Rhett McDonald, Ben Budnik and Bailey Marquardt.
For Hillman, Lars MacArthur pitched, fanning eight. Jared Juergens and Corey Hentigen pitched in relief.
Hillman had hits from Corey Hentigen, Jared Juergens, Lars MacArthur, Xavier Bodus, Klyer Moore and Andrew Funk.
Alpena takes on Oscoda today at 4 p.m. in Roscommon.
Roscommon defeated Oscoda County 11-6 in the other pool game.
In Little League softball pool play at Roscommon, Grayling beat Hillman 15-14 and Boyne City beat East Jordan 15-12.
