ALPENA - The Alpena Cycle Club will be hosting this summer's first two-day motocross event, and will continue with the outdoor races throughout the summer with motocrossing events in July, August and September.
"We've done this for many years. We've been out there for over 50 years, and we've done motocrossing off on," Rose Standen, club secretary, said. "Five-year-olds can race, and anyone who is still able to walk can too."
According to Standen, the race accommodates most people, including children who can also participate and ride on the kid's track if supervised by a parent. There is also a second larger track that will be used for adult racing during the event.
"There are a lot of classes, anyone who wants to race will be put into a class that fits their bike or quad. Everyone will be put in compatible classes for the race," she said.
The two-day motocross event begins on Saturday and will continue on Sunday at the Alpena Cycle Club, located at 7096 Spruce Rd. Club members will accept bike registrations from 8-10 a.m. and the race starts at 11:15 a.m. There is a $6 gate fee for spectators and a $15 race fee per class. Free camping and lunch is available at the event. For more information, call 379-3067 or visit Alpena Cycle Club's Facebook page.
