Over a dozen volunteers protest the local sale of synthetic drugs across from Z’s Crossroads, a local retailer, as passing vehicles honk in support on US-23 North in Alpena on Thursday. Kim Soik, who organized and coordinated the protest, said it would be the first of many until the drugs are banned from Alpena. “It’s about public awareness that synthetic is here, and it’s sold at several places, and we’re asking the public not to support those businesses that are selling, and just to be aware of what synthetic can do to your child,” she said. Soik asks anyone interested in joining their campaign to contact her at 657-2326.
