GAYLORD- The Posen softball team won both of its Division 4 district games Monday to clinch a district championship for the first time since 2006.
In the first game, Posen beat Johannasburg-Lewiston 12-0 in five innings. Ashley Meyers pitched all five innings and threw a no hitter. She gave up three walks and struck out ten.
Abbie Delekta went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, Taylor Chojnacki went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Meyers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Anna Couture and Paige Lewandowski each had two hits.
Posen beat Hillman 3-0 in the district championship. Meyers gave up two hits, four walks, and struck out six.
Couture went 2-for-2 with a double. Lewandowski, Meyers, Abbie Delekta, and Jenna Hincka each added hits.
The Vikings will travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday to play Rapid River in a regional semifinal at 10 am.
Onaway 15, Alanson 0
ROGERS CITY Emily Estep threw a no hitter and had 10 strikeouts Monday to lead the Onaway softball team to a 15-0 win over Alanson in four innings in a Division 4 district semifinal game.
Offensively for Onaway, Brooke Szymoniak went 2-for-3, Megan Estep went 2-for-2 with a double, Sam Brasseur went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs, Lexi Szymoniak went 1-for-2 with a double and Molly Cleaver, Temara Lupu, Erika Price, and Devin Bristley each had a hit.
Onaway will play Rogers City for the district title today at 4 p.m. in Rogers City.
Alcona wins district title
MIO-The Alcona baseball team took both of its games Monday in a Division 4 district to earn a district title and advance to regionals.
In its first game, Alcona beat Hale 5-3. Trenton LaVerne pitched six innings, gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Bryan Layton pitched the final innings giving up no runs, no hits, one walk and earning a strikeout.
Layton, Robbie McGuire, and Nathan Fettes each had an RBI single.
Alcona then took a 3-2 win from Mio in the championship game. Cody Franklin pitched all seven innings, giving up two runs on three hits with a walk. Franklin also struck out six.
Layton had two hits including a solo home run, Fettes hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Alcona will play at Bay City All Saints on Saturday against the winner of the Ubly district in a regional semifinal.
Onaway 13, Alanson 1
ROGERS CITY Onaway earned a place in the Michigan High School Athletic Association top ten for stolen bases by team Monday, stealing seventeen total in their 13-1 win over Alanson in a Division 4 district semifinal game which earned them a place in today's district title game.
Chae Whitsitt was the winning pitcher in the win. In five innings he gave up four hits, no earned runs, four walks, and struck out six.
Andrew Perry went 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs, and six stolen bases. Christian Tollini went 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs, and four stolen bases.
Onaway will play Rogers City at 4 p.m. for the district title today.
