TAWAS-The Alpena High boys golf team took sixth out of eight teams at the Tawas Invitational at Red Hawk Golf Club on Tuesday.
Tate Skiba was seventh with an 84 and Ian Stevens was ninth with an 85. Tawas' Matt McArdle was first with a 79.
Alpena travels to Davison to compete in district competition on Friday.
ONAWAY-The Onaway softball team ended its regular season with a split against Cheboygan on Wednesday, winning the opener 2-1 and dropping the second game 2-1.
Trailing 1-0 in seventh inning of the opener, the Cardinals (25-4) came up big with two outs. Emily Estep singled and then stole second. Sam Brasseur followed with an RBI double to score Estep and Molly Cleaver followed with an RBI double to score Erika Price for the winning run.
Estep pitched for Onaway, allowing four hits and a walk with 11 strikeouts.
Estep allowed a walk and four hits in the nightcap with 10 strikeouts.
Cleaver was 2-for-2 with a double; Temara Lupu was 1-for-4 with an RBI double; Estep was 1-for-2 and Brooke Szymoniak was 1-for-3.
Onaway will open district play on Saturday against Alanson.
