As I bike around town I notice many people wearing bike helmets. Kudos to you. I retired in Social Work from Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit after 17 years. About half of that time I covered the Intensive Care Unit and was a member of the CHM Head Injury Team. I saw children involved in bicycle accidents and each was given a bike helmet at the time of discharge.
I am writing to encourage bikers to consider wearing a helmet and if you have children or a baby who is transported in a carrier please think too about also outfitting each with a properly fitted helmet. If not convinced, please do some reading about this or talk to your doctor. Accidents cannot always be avoided and sometimes are caused by the other guy, a curb or distraction. Parents wearing helmets can be great role models for their kids. Additionally, most organized biking events require helmets. This is one way to be proactive and possibly avoid serious injury in the event of a fall or crash. Thank you.
