Posen softball shuts down Fairview; Hillman drops two

FAIRVIEW The Posen softball team left Fairview Monday with two huge wins.

In the first game Ashley Meyers and Posen's defense shut out Fairview 27-0.

Abbie Delekta had two hits and a grand slam home run.

Anna Couture, Danielle Rhode, and Taylor Chojnacki each had three hits.

In the second game, Posen took a 23-5 win, with Chojnacki pitching.

Amy Buczkowski had five hits; Mercades Kowalski had three hits; and Emily Delekta, Paige Lewandowski, Rhode, and Couture had two hits each.

Tawas 7-7,

Hillman 0-4

HILLMAN The Hillman softball team dropped both games in its doubleheader against Tawas Monday.

The first game ended in a 7-0 Tawas win.

Jensen Tchorzynski had ten strikeouts for Hillman.

The Tigers only had four hits in the game, and those came from Amanda Kennard, Carissa Herrick, Rachel Mayes, and Audrey Julka.

Tchorzynski also pitched in the second game, earning nine strikeouts in the 7-4 loss.

Kennard went 2-for-3; Herrick went 2-for-4; Mayes, Tchorzynski and Taylor Jones each had singles; Arielle Berrie went 3-for-4 with a double and Kourtney Boldrey had a single.

Alcona 13-9, Hale 6-10

HALE- The Alcona softball team split its doubleheader with Hale Monday.

Alcona took the first game with a score of 13-6, with Tiffany Younk getting the win.

Nicole Wilt went 2-for-4 with two singles and Rachel Hefferon went 3-for-4 with two singles and a double.

Alcona dropped game two, losing 10-9.

Younk was the losing pitcher, but went 2-for-4 with two singles at bat.

Vicki Burns went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple.

BASEBALL

Alcona 8-3, Hale 1-8

HALE Alcona split their games in Hale on the baseball diamond Monday.

In game one, Alcona scored six straight unanswered runs in the first four innings, then two more runs in the fifth to beat Hale 8-1.

Joe Hudgins pitched the first game, giving up only one run, four hits, and two walks while striking out seven. Nathan Fettes and Robbie McGuire each had two hits.

Alcona dropped the second game 8-3.

Bryan Layton took the loss, giving up eight runs, seven of which were earned; four hits, three walks; and two strikeouts. Carsen Jameson pitched the last 4 2/3 innings giving up one hit, three walks, no runs, and taking five strikouts.

Kevin Pagels had two hits, and Fettes hit a solo home run.

Alcona's record is now 8-10 overall.

Posen 16-11, Fairview 2-1

FAIRVIEW The Posen baseball team swept Fairview Monday, winning both games in four innings.

Posen won by scores of 16-2 and 11-1 and every player on the roster had at least one hit.

Nathan Lenard improved his individual record to 3-2 by giving up only one hit and striking out four in his 3 1/3 innings pitched in the opener.

Travis Sharpe went 2-for-3 at bat, and had four RBIs while hitting his first career varsity home run.

Lenard went 3-for-3 and Jerome Ciarkowski went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Ciarkowski was on the mound to earn the second win of the night, improving his individual record to 3-2 as well. In his three innings pitched, he gave up only two hits and struck out three Fairview batters.

Brandon Dietz pitched the last inning and gave up no hits and only two walks.

Jordan Jakucin earned his first two varsity hits by going 2-for-2 at bat. Ciarkowski went 2-for-3 and had an RBI.

After Monday's wins, the overall record for the Vikings is 7-5-2, and they are 5-1-2 in the North Star League. Posen's next official game is Saturday in the Posen Tournament, when they will host Superior Central.
