It's that time of year again.
I'm pleased to inform all readers and area athletes that the Alpena News Track and Field Honor Roll Invitational will return for its ninth year on May 29 at Alcona High School.
Though I've only seen one Honor Roll meet in my time in Alpena, it definitely wasn't short on excitement. Last year, four meet records were broken on a day that saw some interesting weather conditions.
Those who have seen several meets would surely tell you that it's always a thrill to see the area's best athletes competing with each other, especially since schools in this area are in different leagues and classes.
Last year, Alpena's Emily McAnsh took four firsts to win Female Athlete of the meet and Hillman's Brandon Baur, the Male Athlete of the Meet, took three firsts.
We hope to see athletes from the likes of Alcona, Alpena, Fairview, Hillman, Onaway, Posen and Rogers City at the meet.
In the coming weeks, I'll be publishing the listing of the top times and distances for the Honor Roll from those school's mentioned above. To all area athletes, parents, friends and families and coaches, if you see results in the paper that aren't quite up to date, please don't hesitate to let me know. Times and distances, especially early in the track and field season, are always changing and I want to make sure that I'm publishing the most up to date information possible. I'd certainly hate to leave out any area athletes who are deserving of participating in the meet's events.
Please feel free to e-mail results to email@example.com or fax them to 989-356-1793.
