Anita Harmon is April's Artist of the Month at Dragonfly Art Gallery in Harrisville. Her paintings will be featured throughout the month, and the gallery will host a reception for her Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
Many Northeast Michigan residents and visitors are familiar with Harmon's artwork. She is a long-time resident of Alpena and taught art for over 25 years, including many in the Alpena Public Schools system before retiring in 2006.
Harmon has exhibited her work at both Dragonfly Art Gallery and Thunder Bay Arts Council Gallery in Alpena since their inception as well as at Art in the Loft and the Besser Museum, where she won second place in the juried art competition in August 2011.

"I have always been into art," Harmon said. "After all these years, I still have drawings I did before kindergarten that my mom saved."
Drawing, painting and some attempts at sculpture have been lifelong fascination for Harmon.
"They are what I do and have always done sometimes as murals, illustrations, or just painting walls," she said. "Since retiring from teaching art, I've had the pleasure of doing more of the same. Inspiration for art is everywhere in everything I do and see."
Saturday's reception will include light refreshments and everyone is welcome. The gallery is located at 116 E. Main.
