HILLMAN-Hillman rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener of a baseball doubleheader Monday and then delivered a strong performance in the nightcap, beating Hale 8-7 (seven innings) and 14-4 (four innings).
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Caleb Zimmer reached on an error to lead off the inning, and then stole second and third. After the next two batters struck out, Michael Klein singled to score Zimmer. Klein then stole second and scored the winning run after an overthrow on the steal attempt.
Klein was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Kory Keegan, Ty Jones and Mason VanPamel each had a hit.

Dylan Ross got the win for the Tigers (3-5) in relief.
Jones earned the win in the nightcap, striking out six and walking three.
Ross led Hillman at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs; Zimmer was 2-for-2 with two RBIs; and Kyle Henigan was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
"I'm very happy. We're finally hitting the ball," Hillman coach Rick Firman said. "We've had several opportunities (in other games) to score, but we haven't gotten any key hits. Today we got key hits and we're getting mentally tougher."
Hillman will host Rogers City today.
Whittemore-Prescott 11-2, Alcona 5-11
WHITTEMORE-The Alcona baseball team split a doubleheader with Whittemore on Monday, losing the opener 11-5 but winning the nightcap 11-2 in five innings.
Cody Frankin earned the loss for Alcona (3-1) in the opener, allowing 11 runs on eight hits. He also struck out seven and walked five in 5 2/3 innings.
Dillon Dahn had two hits for the Tigers.
Joe Hudgins pitched a complete game to earn the win in the nightcap. He gave up two runs on six hits, struck out five and walked only one.
Alcona will play at Roscommon on Wednesday.
Alpena 9-15, Sault Ste. Marie 7-0
The Alpena JV baseball team swept a doubleheader with Sault Ste. Marie on Monday, winning 9-7 and 15-0 (three innings).
Andy Marwede pitched a complete game in the opener and earned the win, fanning 13 and allowing five hits.
He was also 3-for-4 at the plate.
Cody Tucker earned the win for the Wildcats (3-2) in the nightcap, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Marwede was 2-for-3; Jay Dutcher was 2-for-2 and Ryan Cadarette was 2-for-2.
Alpena hosts Cheboygan on Thursday.
